Do you know where I might be able to get a CD recording of Thomas Morley's Reproaches (for Good Friday). Is it available somewhere on CD?

Thanks,
Fr Andrew Notere

I wasn't aware that The Reproaches had been set by Thomas Morley. His output of sacred music was small compared to his prolific number of madrigals, canzonets and balletts.
Perhaps the individual titles of the texts which he set as Reproaches may help your search, but there does not appear to be any entry on Google which specifically relates Morley to that work. Neither is there anything in Grove's Dictionary (arguably the best source for lists of composers works).
Perhaps you could post us a few more details eg. Publisher of the Music, texts used.

Sorry I cant be more helpful Crying or Very sad

Just to let you all know that Fr.Andrew kindly sent me a copy of the Reproaches by Thomas Morley, for which I am most grateful. I had no idea that Morley had written a setting of this......there are no recordings that I know of either.
Very Happy

So did he send you a studio recording or a live one? If the former, what was it? Or perhaps it was a pdf of the score?

I have two separate recordings of Morley's canticle settings, but like you, Lance, I had not known that Morley set the Reproaches. Mention that and I have hitherto thought of John Sanders. (A beautiful setting.)

Cheers,
Jason

It was a pdf of the score, Jason (Sorry I wasn't very clear in my message)

Now as for John Sanders...aaahhh bliss! Very Happy

Do you reckon this is a Reproaches made up from Morley phrases (ie: from other works) or is it a complete composition? The fact that it isn't listed in Grove nor anywhere else might point to the former.

John.
