Lucky you, David
This is one of the most difficult yet satisfying works I have ever sung. The last section of the work can really test a good choir. This is Walton at his very best.

Hi all!
i remeber singing at the proms once! was such a good experience! the verger on the way up thought that he had lost my solid silver and white gold medal!!! My sister is a pro bassoonist that gets asked to play all over the world so have seen her there a few times. shes playing with the age of enlightenment and has just come back from russia playing with the national ballet!
so i have fond memories of the proms!
Cheers!
P.S. where is everyone?

When did you sing there Stocky? I've had a season ticket every year starting in 1997 so if it was during that time there's a reasonable chance I was there.
I've sung in the Albert Hall a few times myself (but not at the Proms), Imperial Colelge has it's Commemoration Day (i.e. Graduation) ceremonies in there and the choir gets to sing in the middle as a bit of light relief.
As for Belshazzar, I've been able to sing it in concerts in Ely Cathedral and the chapel at King's Cambridge, great fun, especially when the baritone in the Ely performance was accompanied by a roll of thunder just as he reached "and the souls of men"! _________________ --

Hello....is anyone around?? Forum has been mighty quiet this last weekend.
I've just finished reading "The Beat is Irrelevant", which was recommended to me by Jason as a good account of Barry Rose's time at Guildford. It was most enjoyable and I recommend it as compulsory reading for anyone at all interested in church music.
I've now started reading "The Best of Both Worlds", the life of Sir William McKie, which could be very interesting, seeing as I've also recently read Humphrey Clucas's book on Westminster Abbey and the demise of Martin Neary. Things at the Abbey may not have been quite as turbulent in Sir William's time!
Come on chaps! Liven this forum up a bit!!
Cheers
Lance

Lance,
Glad you enjoyed the Barry Rose book- I agree: compulsory reading. I hope to read the Clucas book shortly. Now you have me interested in the book about McKie!
Cheers,

Jason
The book "The Best of Both Worlds" is written by Howard Hollis and is published by the Sir William Mckie Memorial Trust 1991,
ISBN 0 646 070037. I'm not sure if it is still available. There are a couple of used editions on Amazon but at extaordinary prices
I bought mine new 4 or 5 years ago at one of those bargain discount book shops in Melbourne for the princely sum of AU$5 !, reduced from AU$30

Damon,
Yes, isn't that interesting. Yet considering how far booked into the future so many musicians are, I should not be surprised if 2008 is well underway!
Cheers,
