Has anyone got a good suggestion for an anthem suitable for Trinity Sunday for a mixed SATB choir of adults of poor ability and children learning to sing? Our choir is the very definition of 'ancient and modern' on looks alone! All are very enthusiastic, though.
They like Rutter stuff....
Thanks for your help |

Any Sanctus would do, such as the Sanctus from Fauré Requiem, but a dead easy one is the Sanctus from the German Mass D872 by Schubert, which can be found in The Church Anthem Book (OUP).
The Oxford Easy Anthem Book has George Oldroyd's 'Ye Watchers And Ye Holy Ones' which can be performed Unison, 2 part or 4 part.
You could always give them a shortened version of St.Patrick's Breastplate (I Bind Unto Myself...)
I don't think Rutter wrote anything specific to the Trinity
Hope this helps _________________ The older I get, the better I was. |

Just as an aside, has anyone sung anything more difficult for Trinity Sunday than "A Hymn to the Trinity" by Kenneth Leighton (Anthems for Choirs 4 - OUP)
That one tests even the most competent of choirs _________________ The older I get, the better I was. |

Ah, George Oldroyd. I use a number of his organ works, but none seem to have been recorded. But they're fabulous! (And not that difficult.) |

I have a recording of one of his improvisations. When I have time I'll do an mp3 and mail it to you

I've just received my copy of Church Music Quarterly, and in it is a free CD by The Oxford Choir conducted by Bob Chilcott, singing selections from a new publication by OUP called "Flexible Anthems". This has a delightful (modern) arrangement by Alan Bullard of the Schubert Sanctus for SATB and piano which I could highly recommend. Read about it here:
http://www.oup.co.uk/isbn/0-19-335895-6
I can't seem to find out if the piece is available separately
