Guildford certainly lives up to the reputation it gained during Barry Rose's directorship, with an excellent Evensong this week!

Since I remembered to set the recording, I must actually listen to it

I gave it a listen last night- quite fine. And the Very Rev Victor Stock's comments were rather interesting... |

I presume you are talking about St.David's. I enjoyed it
What about you Jason?
Best wishes to Timothy Noon as he moves on to Liverpool Metropolitan!

For those who like girls on the top line, try this week's service from Bath Abbey.
Nice job girls! _________________ The older I get, the better I was. |

I have attended many a Sunday cathedral evensong in various places, with not a descant in sight - what's the problem? |

Anyone catch Evensong from Christ Church today? Not the kind of stuff I usually go for, yet for some reason Palestrina's music always mesmerizes me. Oh to have been there... |

You beat me to it this time Jason.
Yes, a lovely Palestrina, but OMG! what do they think they're doing with the psalm? Just doesn't flow using that style of chanting. Isn't it generally regarded to be as close as possible to speech rhythm? Perhaps there's always got to be an exception. Well here it is _________________ The older I get, the better I was. |

Only caught up with the broadcast during the mag, but I understand the peculiarities of chanting at Christ Church are a fairly long-standing house style to do with the peculiarities of the acoustic there. _________________ --

It may have been for reasons of acoustics once upon a time, but it's just got ridiculous now! |

From Ps.82
God standeth in the congregation of priiiiiiiiinces: he is a Juuuuuudge among gods
Defend the poor and faaaaaatherless: see that such as are in neeeeeeeed and necessity have right
Neeeeeed I go on? IMHO it's a style and has nothing to do with a dry acoustic. _________________ The older I get, the better I was. |

It was pointed out on the BBC Choir board (which I just joined) that Wells Cathedral this past Tuesday did
Blair in B minor
, followed the next day by Brown's
Collegium Magdalenae Oxoniense
.
