The implication would be that they are the same pieces, but Schubert never used that title.....I think it's someone's own attempt to translate into German. _________________ The older I get, the better I was. |

Hi Jason
I was checking out the Music List for Kings ..
-
May 24th ... it shows Der herr ist
but the C.D. ((( think it called Heavenly voices ))) shows schuberts setting as Gott ist ..
Hence wondered if they were sung to the same tune of if it was the same piece but worded differently ? |

Bach's cantata BWV 112 is "Der Herr ist mein getreuer Hirt" or literally "the Lord is my faithful shepherd" so I guess if it's OK for Bach to interchange Gott for Der Herr then it's OK for King's! _________________ The older I get, the better I was. |

Aw nuts, I have that CD. No wonder the Schubert title sounded vaguely familiar. |

I haven't been in the church for years, but I've got a feeling they were advertising recently in Church Times for an organist (or assistant?)

Crediton was the seat of the original diocese of Devon and Cornwall, though when that moved to Exeter, Crediton's church was considerably rebuilt.
I spent several days in Exeter a few years ago, but alas didn't have time to visit Crediton. (I did not have access to a car.) I did visit Ottery St. Mary's and that was certainly worth a good portion of an afternoon. Anyone with more info about Crediton is welcome... |

Thanks, damon, you're too kind, but I've never heard nor heard of the Malcolm. Perhaps Lance can help here. I've seen him come up with some amazing knowledge. |

I'm betting this is George Malcolm, Master of Music at the Drome from 1947 to 1959.

If I'm guessing correctly it's the sort of Magnificat they sing there every day at vespers, full-on stuff!
Best
