I can't access the Saint Mary the Virgin, New York website ( www.stmvirgin.org ) either. I get DNS/Server timeouts from both Internet Explorer and Firefox. My home ISP is demon. Is there some sort of ISP non-US block in place?

John.

Hi Guys,
Just noticed the distress here and sent a note on to Rector to see if there is some US limitation. Not sure when he will read it, but I will get back with his answer.
Joe

1/10 Just had a note from the Rector sgerth@stmvnyc.org Perhaps that '@' might work for website.

Update -
I have had some difficulty w/ stmvirgin.org site- a page of links comes up. I went back to my Favorites and doubled clicked again on SMV; it worked each time. Could this be a solution?

SMV fans outside the US may have to check out their internet servers that the word 'virgin' in the address is not on their prohibited list. Yesterday, I spoke with the Curate, John Beddingfield - more computer savvy than the Rector - and he mentioned that while at Oxford, he had trouble accessing the SMV site as well - a server problem. I think you might need some technical help here.
Joe

www.stmvirgin.org is the site

Joe,

Essentially the stmvirgin server is not accessible from at least Europe (and Australia). This can be verified by using a European online diagnostics service (eg: http://www.demon.net/toolkit/internettools/ ) compared to a US based server (eg: http://www.dnsreport.com/ ).

John,
I thought I posted a reply a few moments ago. I just sent your reply with the URL's on to SMV. The technology here is well beyond me. Thanks for all your work. Sorry that the site isn't available 'out there'.

Success at last. I can now access the site from Australia.

Thanks Joe for all your hard work in making your church aware of the difficulties for non USA access.
Anyone from UK like to let us know if you also were successful?

Lance Very Happy

Hi guys, delighted to read that you are finally able to access the SMV site. I think you will be impressed by the variety of music performed here. Last year surveyed Spanish masters for Masses and motets. I believe the archives will bring up materials from past years as well. The Rector's weekly comments are worth a look - even though fiscal solvency might be lurking just beneath. Attendance is published ,and there has been a gradual increase in these last years. This is really a commuter parish - right in the theater district - 1/2 block from Times Square Tourists from around the country who value fine Liturgy are in regular attendance. They soon become part of the greater parish with their financial support.
Please check out the tabs for all kinds of info.
btw Robert McCormick started there as a 26 yr old grad of Westminster Choir School( part of Ryder College), NJ. A prodigy from the beginning! he's a most valuable asset for the fine worship experiences there. Like the Rector, he too was a convert from the Baptists.
Glad to know another NYC treasure is availble to all of you.
Joe

I passed on the good news of SMV site availability across both ponds yesterday to Fr. Beddingfield at SMV. He mentioned that the provider had made some changes. Earlier in the day newborn son of Fr. Matthew Mead, Liam, was Baptized at the Solemn Mass by his grandfather, Andrew, Rector of St. Thomas.

I hope the Evensong from ST yesterday was as brilliant on the Web as it was in person. The Spanish Canticles and the Byrd 'Laudibus' were wonderful.

Unfortunately SMV is in no position $$ to get into webcasting. Chant yesterday at Evensong was beautiful.
