Can anyone help find this Hymn?
Quote: |
I was brought up in England and lived there from 1959 to 1982. At my high school -- Judd School in Tonbridge, Kent -- we frequently sang a hymn that contained the words "those fields of glowing grain". I can still hum the tune but nobody I have spoken with in the US is familiar with either the words, the tune or the hymn. It is a beautiful emotional piece that I would love to find again. I was wondering if you might be able to help.
Many thanks in advance

Is this 'Unless a grain of wheat'? I think it might well be. |

No - those words are not in "Unless a grain of wheat". |

Its called "Far Round the World, Thy Children Sing Their Song" by Basil Mathews 1879-1951.
The tune is "Dunblane Cathedral", and it's Hymn 373 in The Scottish Psalter and Church Hymnary.
The words are here: http://ingeb.org/spiritua/farround.html

Who needs search engines when we've got Lance!
I remember singing this at school to "Woodlands". |
