I seem to be surrounded by a group of friends who think Bruckner's Christus Factus Est is the best piece of music EVER whereas I can't stand the piece.

Can anyone enlighten me on this one please? You might even win a prize Very Happy

I prefer Locus Iste personally.....but for prize-winning purposes I'll agree with anything Cool

Is the website link going to be the prize? Question

I've heard too many bad renditions of Locus Iste by choirs who thought they could sing it (wayward booming basses, nasal tenors at the "irreprehensibilis est") for it to be a favourite Sad

What about Os Justi?

John.

Confining Bruckner to his short liturgical pieces is like confining Beethoven to his Fur Elise and claiming it a fair representation of his piano music.

Bruckner thinks BIG. To pick only one example, his 7th Symphony is a massive fresco which litterally encompasses the whole of the human spectrum, much like the Elgar Second. Try the slow mov't as a foray into his most profound inner thoughts, then the scherzo for excitement that borders on the apocalyptic. In my more imaginative moments I have seen the gods descending on horseback to Earth!
