Choir: |
The choir is mixed: 20 choristers (15 boys, 5 girls), 3A, 4T, 4B. Boys are educated on scholarship at The Hutchins School, Hobart (oldest school for boys in Australia, established in 1846). Girls attend St Michael's Collegiate School for girls and their participation is voluntary. Girl choristers have only been introduced in the last 3 months. Layclerks are also voluntary singers (altos are female). The repertoire of the choir resembles closely that of the mainstream repertoire of the cathedrals in England. Anglican chant is widely used. For special occasions (when the Cathedral Choir can't be present) and to supplement its ranks, the Hutchins School Chapel Choir assists. |

Other Information: |
St David's Cathedral, Hobart is part of the Anglican Church of Australia and the only Anglican Cathedral in Tasmania. The foundation stone was laid by HRH Duke of Edinburgh in January 1868 (sic). The Cathedral Cloisters and Bell Tower house a museum. Interesting to those in England are the stones mounted on the walls of the Cloisters from English Cathedrals and Abbeys as well as a few others around the world. I think when they first built St David's these stones may have been gifts:
